Soul Survivor
by Michelle Nicole
The Hybrid Chronicles  #1
Publication: June 14th 2013
Genre: YA Paranormal Romance

Hailee Mai Hart is just a simple, normal girl. Or so she thought. When she left her one-horse town for a college education in the big city, she never could've imagined what awaited her.

She's quickly thrown into a world filled with angels, danger, and a curse ... her curse. Come to find out, she's not so simple after all. She's actually the last of her kind, and the fate of the world rests on her shoulders. She has one chance to save Earth, and it all comes down to one choice: Light or Darkness. What is right and what is wrong is all a matter of perspective, which leaves her heart dangerously tangled. No matter which path she takes people will die, and that's just not an option.

Will she be able to save everyone, or will she be the Soul Survivor?

Welcome, Michelle! The blog tour for your debut novel, Soul Survivor, kicks off today! Are you jumping in joy or biting your nails? :)
Well I do have a horrible habit of biting my nails but I'm actually super excited so let's go with JUMPING FOR JOY! I can't think of a better way to celebrate my 30th birthday then with a blog tour for MY book. For the record, I'm still not sure this is real life. I'm still adjusting. ;)

For those who might be too busy to read the book summary, describe Soul Survivor in one sentence.
Gah! Super hard request. *cracks knuckles* Okay here it goes...SS is about a super smart girl, Hailee who is discovering herself and her "world" in the process she is faced with a tough decision to make—lives, love, and family all hang in the balance.

What inspired the idea behind the book?
I wondered what it would be like to truly be able to change the world—save the world—on a big scale (because we all have the opportunity on a small scale). Next thing I know Hailee arrives, then Alex, then Seth—boy, did he shake things up for me...I mean Hailee. ;) I love angel books so that's why they became my supernatural being of choice. I was also listening to a LOT of Breaking Benjamin which really helped mold/inspire a ton a moments/scenes. So, this book became my opportunity to change/save the world even if its just a fictional world.

What was the most challenging part of writing it?
Wow. So many things--I guess the most obvious challenge was lack of time. I started the book back in late 2010/early 2011 while planning a wedding/working full time. Then after we got married that summer, I decided to go back to get my MBA. MBA + CPA day job = Non existent writing time. It was tough. I thought about SS every day and sometimes months would go by without a free moment to write. I crammed in what I could during semester breaks and whenever I had enough energy to sit at my laptop after a long day of work/class. But that's just life and you have to make time for what you love. ;)

Aside from lack of time, the other huge challenge was self doubt. I'll tell you a little secret—okay, maybe it's not much of a secret—I'm an accountant, numbers are my thing. They always have been. I hated english class—HATED it! I was always so bored and I could never understand the symbolism and all the other englishy stuff teachers/professors wanted us to see. So, as I finished the story knowing my entire writing career rested on this little gem it scared the CRAP out of me. This book has a lot of my heart and soul in it and putting that on display for the world to see was incredibly frightening. I tell everyone numbers are safe but words are risky. But in the end, what's life if we don't take a few risks right? ;)

How does it feel to have your debut out there in the hands of readers?
Surreal, amazing, exciting, and super scary!

Besides writing, what other artistic talents do you have?
Well, back in high school I used to sketch, but I haven't tried my hand at that in a long time. I do love to sing and can play a few tunes on the piano (nothing too complex though.) Recently, I've become addicted to making book marks...it's my new crafty thing.

Are you currently writing another book?
YES!!!! I'm focusing my energies on two actually! One is the sequel to Soul Survivor—entitled Soul Searcher and the other is a new adult contemporary romance entitled Blurred Lines. Besides those two, I've got about nine other WIPs on the back burner with those characters vying for my attention as well so when necessary I give them a little time on the page as well. ;)

What advice would you give aspiring authors?
You only live once if you have a story write—no matter how much it scares the living crap out of you—take a chance on yourself and share it. Not everyone is going to like what you have to say but if you can touch at least one life with your story you've made a difference—you've accomplished something amazing. So, don't give up no matter what—there's always gonna be speed bumps, but nothing you can't handle. And in the end you'll learn more about yourself than you could've ever imagined. ;)

Current Obsession:
Beads—I have an addiction to sparkly beads which I use to feed my crafty bookmark addiction.
Last thing you Googled:
Radioactive video (I love Imagine Dragons.)
You’re stressed. What’s the first thing you do or reach for?
Brownies—I'm a stressful eater and brownies are my favorite. ;)
You write best with __MUSIC__ during __THE EVENING__ and __IN YOUR PJs__.
Best writing resource:
Music is my resource/inspiration! ;)
Guilty pleasure:
Binge watching on Netflix. I'm currently binge watching Roswell and One Tree Hill--How did I not know about these shows sooner? I live under a rock I swear. :)
Automatic buy-list author:
I have a few: Tiffany King, M. Leighton, Courtney Cole, Michelle Muto, Paulina Ulrich, & Liz Long. ;)
Favorite YA Paranormal Romance:
Gah! Hard question but I'd have to go with Tiffany King's Saving Angels series. This series was the SECOND indie series I read. I was sold after that. Meant To Be (Book 1 in the series) has really stuck with me and Tiffany has been such an inspiration/guiding light in my author career. If you haven't read her books you MUST look her up. She rocks!
Character you wish was real so you could meet:
Oh, there's so many of those but if I had to choose just one I'd have to go with Paulina Ulrich's Damon. I fell in love with him in Broken Wings. He's my kind of guy, we could have lots of fun with his fancy watch. (Read the books (The Flightless Bird series) and you'll understand.) ;)
Your favorite Lannister—Jaime, Tyrion, or Tywin?
I haven't watched Game of Thrones enough to be able to pick. I know. I know. Please don't cut off my head. ;)

Thanks so much for stopping by and spending time with us, Michelle!
Raina, thank you so much for having me on The LUV'NV and hosting this fantabulous blog tour. You are an angel! ;)

Sethaniel aka Seth aka The Darkness
The (Possibly) Misunderstood Villain

Hobbies: Wreaking havoc on humanity
Occupations: Hybrid Assassin, Previous leader of the Supremacy
Likes: Inflicting pain and heartbreak on the world, Hailee
Dislikes: Sunshine, butterflies, the general human population, the Supremacy, Alexander, Amitel
Abilities: Master manipulator, controls subjects with hypnotic eyes, telepathy, the power of resurrection

I’m the Premiere, the first being created in the Creator’s image. I was his favorite once. I used to rule the Supremacy with a fair hand and even temper. But that was before the Darkness seeped in—before the only woman I loved sacrificed herself for the men she loved—myself and her father. Being immortal is the greatest curse when you must suffer the pain of your mistakes for eternity.
When the pain became unbearable, I ravaged the earth spreading misery and death in my wake. No matter what I inflicted, the pain never left—the Darkness only bled deeper into my soul. The Supremes hate me but cannot be rid of me, so instead, we struck a deal—I’d have no ties to their petty government with one exception—to be their assassin and rid the earth of the only beings, the only species that could relinquish their control—the hybrids.
Everything was going as planned—six hybrids bled out on the end of my blade—never a second thought until her. When I met her face-to-face, everything changed. While the Darkness still ensnares my soul, for the first time in centuries—I want to live. The Supremes want her dead. I want her dead. I want her alive. I want her.
What I want means nothing since this hybrid will be the death of me unless I can sway her to choose me over the Light. Normally this wouldn’t be an issue, but with her, my hypno-tactics are useless—she’s immune. And I’m furious—torn between self-preservation and protecting the first person who sheds light on my black soul.

Michelle Nicole was born and raised in wild, wonderful West Virginia. While her first passion is numbers, not long into adulthood, Michelle rediscovered her love of books and with it the joy and fulfillment of writing her own stories. She spends her days working as a CPA and her nights weaving tales of love, friendship, and everything in between.

When she's not working or writing, you'll find her binge watching her favorite TV shows, reading, tweeting, hanging with her husband and furry children, or spending time with her close knit extended family.
