Bound to the water, bound to land, a Siren’s soul will never be safe on either side of the ocean’s surface. Hidden beneath the rolling waves lies the secret to Theia’s past and as she unveils each haunting truth, she realizes the last seventeen years of her life have been a lie. Now, drawn into a mysterious new world and with nowhere to turn, Theia must place her trust in Luc, a beautiful boy who stops her heart with each dazzling smile, but even his unearthly charm can’t hide the truth—he has secrets—dark secrets binding him to his world—an underwater world where Theia will never belong—a world determined to destroy her soul.
Surface is the first book I've read revolving around sirens and mermaids. It definitely won't be the last. The author, Tiffany Daune, captivated me with deep sea lore and an even deeper plot between multiple worlds on the same planet. I'm even more curious about stories with thalassic races and the possibilities their aquatic realm holds.
While I wish Surface was longer and had a little more development in regards to the main protagonists, Theia and Luc, and their relationship, I pleasantly found the plot more complex than I anticipated. Don't get me wrong; I still liked the main characters and was curious about Theia's heritage, but for me, it was the secondary characters and their stories, how they all came together and intertwined, that added the depth. Not every character was who I thought they were. Or they were, but they had surprised me with their level of devotion or selfishness.
Beginning with intense, mysterious scenes, Surface hooked from the start, but it was once I reached the middle that it reeled me in, and I couldn't put the book down. There were so many twists, so many things that could happen. I didn't know where each story thread would lead, and I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. Action-packed, the ending ... wow, it blew me out of the water.
I'm hoping this book is part of a series. It would be interesting to see where all the characters are, if they learned anything from the consequences or would get caught and pay them. The serene, underwater setting also felt too perfect on the surface. Underneath, discontent loomed. The balance of power was unstable and on the verge of a great shift. I would love to read about it.
If you're a Paranormal or light Fantasy fan looking for a something new, I suggest you try Surface. It opened my mind to a lovely new world, full of possibilities.

Thank you!
Thank you!
Tiffany Daune doesn't get why people want to grow up or why anyone would ever stop eating candy. Her purse is filled with books, lip gloss and a few pieces of Lego bricks. She writes best with a dish of chocolate chips on hand and finds licorice makes a better straw than plastic.
She lives on an island and believes mermaids may be raiding her candy stash, thoughshe hasn't caught them, yet.
Surface is her first novel and pairs well with gummy sharks.
