So…what now?
I already made the idiotic decision of giving him the time of day. Should I listen to what he has to say? What will he tell me? I, for sure, have plenty to convey to him!
“Bella,” Edward’s voice intrudes my racing thoughts and I turn my head around to face him.
“What?” I snap in a harsher tone than intended.
Edward frowns and nudges his head in my direction. “You’re pacing…are you all right?”
I glare at him as if he suddenly grew a second head. Did he seriously just ask me that question?
Gesturing my hands furiously in the air, I snap, “No, I’m not all right Edward, anything but!”
I take a deep, slow breath and try to placate the rage that’s invading my body. Once I feel a little better, I cross my arms over my chest and settle my gaze on him again. “Why are you here, Edward? What do you want from me? I mean, it’s been months since I saw you last and a while since we communicated via phone-“
“That’s because you’ve been avoiding me!” Edward interrupts in a pained voice as a forlorn expression etches his face.
Oh, am I supposed to feel sorry for him now? Is he that oblivious?
“Can you blame me? Do you have short-term memory loss or something? Don’t make me recap how things ended between us because of you! You chose to break off our engagement, and to end our seven-year relationship. You did, not me! So don’t you fucking stand there and try to make me feel guilty because I wouldn’t return your calls or refused to see you!”
That’s a girl, keep going! Remain strong, don’t allow him to tear down those walls you’ve worked so hard to keep in tact!

With an irritated sigh, Peter asked, “You guys in trouble? Cuz you know, if you are, then we’re already a part of whatever this is.”
Jasper ignored the question. “Where are you two?”
“In the fine city of New Orleans. Drunks make good meals—not much of a struggle, but they’re fun to mess with.”
Scott scowled at the phone.
“I’ve answered your question.” Peter’s voice grew demanding. “You gonna answer mine? Are you in trouble?”
Jasper glanced questioningly at his wife, then waited as she stilled, checking her internal crystal ball. She shook her head, confirming that telling Peter would not go well. “Nothing we can’t handle. You’ve done enough.” Jasper ignored the glare from his sister, knowing she’d catch on in a second. “We could use a small favor. Nothin’ big. Carlisle needs a couple of extra hands at home. Just for a few months. We’ll see you there when we’re done with our business.”
Scott nodded approvingly at his brother’s cover story. Some of the prefects might object to bringing in help outside of the Tribunal’s influence. Once they were away, Peter could be filled in.
“Nothin’ big, huh? Let me see…are Scott and Diane with you?”
“We’re here,” Scott answered. “Quit fishing for trouble that’s not there.”
“Wasn’t you I was thinking about.”
Diane grinned. “I’m here, too.”
A muttered curse came from Peter. “The four of you are there—wherever there is—and the rest of Casa de Cullen are back at home. You’re tellin’ me you can’t get away when Carlisle needs you? Still sticking with the story that you’re not in trouble?"
