It’s two weeks before Triss turns 18, and her world is about to change into the most magical one imaginable as she readies herself to enter The Witch Avenue Order... that is until her mother’s disappearance. Instead of celebrating her transformation, she finds herself spreading rose petals into her mother’s empty grave.

When Logan, her best friend from junior high, moves back to town for college, he vows to help her find the answers she so desperately seeks surrounding her mother’s disappearance. As they begin uncovering clues, it becomes apparent that the life of white magic they both grew up loving is not what the majority practices, and their lives are in danger.

With a haunting feeling that her mother may still be alive, she begins to hear a call to the wilderness. Triss realizes that in order to find the answers she needs, she must learn the ways of her ancestors and become the hunter, not the hunted before it’s too late, and she becomes part of the lonely souls.

Lonely Souls is available as a FREE download on Amazon for the duration of the tour.

I love books revolving around witches. With the incantations, herbal remedies, rituals, and covens that are tight-knit communities, they're fascinating, complex, and sometimes spooky reads. Lonely Souls was definitely all three. In the first chapter, I was enveloped in teenage witch's peaceful life before I got the chills. Triss, the female protagonist, finds that her mother has disappeared, seemingly out of thin air, before she catches a glimpse of a man watching her before he, too, disappears.

Although in the beginning Triss has a hard time moving on from the coven, not the police, declaring the death of her mother, I thought the author did a great job mixing Triss's devastation with the action. The emotions were clear, believable, yet not frustratingly drawn out nor too quickly overcome. The mystery and intrigue continued to build up.

But then halfway through the book, the plot surrounding her mother dwindled. The romance between Triss and Logan took precedence, and while I can usually overlook that, it's only when the romance is amazeballs. I found Logan sweet, at times, but he could also come off as overbearing. Sometimes he seemed so secretive and too perfect that he seemed conniving. I did eventually appreciate him and his personal growth, though, how he needed to come to terms with his past practicing dark magic.

I also appreciated how Triss tried to keep her wits about her, in terms of the magic world she thought she knew and the reality she encounters, as well as around Logan. Yet, in the same breath, for someone who wanted to focus on her mother's disappearance, she thought an awful lot about fighting Logan's advances, and there wasn't enough info revealed about the actual Lonely Souls. The plot picked up near the end of the book and we get some answers, but I anticipated more, more info, more action and twists, and a broader, sharper view on the history of the coven, the different spiritual planes, and Triss's family.

But I think Triss's discovery of the true witch world, both light and dark, not simply the side her mother raised her with, is the series arc. Overall, Lonely Souls was enjoyable. The plot is interesting and original, and the protagonist is likable. I'd recommend the book to fans of YA Paranormal novels heavy on the slow-burn Romance.
