Summary: I am a monster—born to protect, yet living only to kill. My humanity is gone, all until one harmless glance changes everything. Just one glance has bound two sworn enemies together. But is it fate or a joke? Can one who has lost herself be found again by another? Or is this another dark, dirty, trick of my own mind? A forbidden passion, heat, and intense anger—this is no fairytale.

Sound.
Sound and smoke.
Sound and smoke and shots of hard liquor.
Music pounding out of speakers.
Fire eating away at stumps of chopped wood.
People slurping, laughing, constantly in motion.
This sure as hell isn't battle training.
I duck through the trees step on to the beach, drawing in the scene before me.
Sam's the closest. He carries boxes of fireworks on his shoulder, his other hand closed around Emily's. Jared's already made his way here - he rushes through the waves, bent over as he splashes Kim, who squeals and hops away from him before giggling and sending a slap of water back at him. Embry and Seth tinker with a second stereo while a few runts kick sand into fires, angering the elders seated in lawnchairs. Billy chuckles as Old Quil waves a stick threateningly, chasing them off. My feet turn through the sand as I approach, keeping a good distance. I'm here, but I'm an outsider, better left to the edge of the wall they've created - a wall between what's natural and what shouldn't be here.
I wear their skin, but not their name.
They're protectors.
I'm a killer.
And it burns.

*** Chapter 11 Teaser ***
Once Scott’s half of the army disappeared from sight, the Major turned to his Lieutenant.
“You’ve been a busy girl. Covert trips to war zones, custom made pistols complete with newly developed ammunition…” Tilting his head, he demanded, “You have any other tricks up your sleeve that I need to know about?”
Diane glanced around and lowered her voice. “Tricks? Coming here with those weapons was a tactical decision. Alice saw that you needed us. Those pistols allow us to take down targets without giving away our position.” Taking a moment to study her brother’s face, Diane’s anger began to burn at his accusing expression. “This is not a pride thing, Jasper. We’re here to help you.”
“Is that right? Seems to me like you—not Alice—just you came to show me how things should be done.”
Diane couldn’t believe what she was hearing. “I’m not the enemy here.”
He poked a single finger into her shoulder. “Oh no?” A wisp of fear pulsed through the point of contact. “If it weren’t for you, Alice wouldn’t be in this mess—headed out there—with those things.”
A small tremble ran through her, she couldn’t help it. Recognizing the manufactured emotion for what it was, she snapped her teeth together and fought it. “I didn’t make her come. Alice had the choice to stay home.”
The wisp grew into a trickle. “You knew she wouldn’t let you come alone.”
“She said you needed us.” Diane’s body began to believe the fear and tried to protect itself. Knees weakened and shoulders hunched despite Diane’s efforts.
Leaning forward, the Major kept his finger in place, strengthening his assault until the fear was no longer a trickle, but flowing strongly, mixed with sorrow so deep it hurt. “Mark my words. If anything happens to her…”
Diane let out a small cry as she fell to her knees, shaking and afraid to look at the one who towered over her.
Summary: Life turned out nothing like expected for Isabella Marie. A trip to Seattle, she can't explain, led her to buy a book she'll never read, a book she could have easily written because she was there sixteen years ago. Memories morph into reality again when Isabella is finally faced with the ghost of her past. Will she find the answers she seeks, or will disappointment lie ahead?
*** Chapter 1 Teaser ***
I’d had a perfect profile view of the boy who would eventually sustain me in a world where everything would be turned upside down. A boy that would right things before he wronged them. A boy that would believe in me when I lost hope, but then took my belief away with him when he finally left. A boy that refused to see the worst in me, but harbored secrets himself. A boy who would eventually become a man. A man who was no longer a part of my life.
