Happy New Year and Happy 1st Deviant Month of the year!

A new year calls for something timeless, classic, starting things off in a big way. A classic fanfic will always restore the love in the fandom as well as reaffirming why we are here.

Bonne Foi  is just the deviant for the job that even the naysayers will be pleased.

One of my all time favorite stories. Classic fanfic that still holds up when so many no longer do. It is also my "go to story" when waiting for other stories to update or when I am just in the mood for the perfect Darkward. This is the epitome of the true Darkward and the story that sets the bar for me for all Darkward stories.

I love this Edward. He is self assured, cocky, knows what he wants, a human blood drinker, and alone. Changed and left by his sire, he made is own way through immortality and is just fine, so he thinks, until Bella comes stumbling in to his life.

Bella, yes a stumbling, bumbling Bella. It is her canon characterization after all, but that is all the canon you will see of her. The writer does a really good job reinventing Bella in to a self assured, strong, intelligent young woman. She is still Bella, just better, more believable. More likable.

There meeting is an immediate attraction ... canon ... Edward wants to drain her ... canon ... instead, they have sex ... definitely not canon. Classic one night stand ala college setting. Obviously Edward doesn't kill Bella, but is bound and determined to have her again, and again, and again. Bella is just as eager. And though she notices Edward's "differences", she doesn't say anything let alone question...the canon attraction but written in a way that you the reader don;t think anything of it either,

The story is very intelligently written, even introducing us to existentialism. If you haven't read The Stranger, you definitely will after reading Bonne Foi.

It is a love story but not a goofy one. Edward has no idea what it is to be in love and rejects a lot of the feelings he has. Bella treads very lightly also. When the realization does hit Edward, it is just perfectly done for his characterization. This is not "sparkly" Edward. he is very matter factually in personality, always with the logic.

There is action, the wolf pack, the bad nomads, evil Volturi, and the rest of the Cullens who Edward does not know, and best of all, no over the top Alice.

Some of my favorite lines that give you a feel for their personalities:
Alluring little thing…I wanted to have her again and again until her innocence was completely corrupted…and I could, couldn't I? If I could take my pleasure and leave her undamaged, I could have her again…
Okay, so this was absurd. I knew that. I was made to kill humans, not to let them use me as a full-body pillow.

But why shouldn't I enjoy this? She was warm. It was a pleasant sensation. Where was it written that I couldn't soak up this little human's body heat while she slept? I was a vampire, wasn't I? I lived outside of rules and boundaries; I could do whatever I wanted.
I was still pacing restlessly that afternoon when Bella came through the door, scowling, today's newspaper in hand. I stopped in my tracks and opened my mouth to greet her, but she was faster.

"I know what you are."
Oh, and this ...
She laid back down with a huff. "I hate it when you're all…reasonable," she complained.

"Sorry. I'll try to stop that," I said dryly.

Bonne Foi  is a kick ass story that you are guaranteed to love whether you love canon or not.
